Anything, Not EverythingNovember 7, 2012
Ultimately, the decision to say no comes down to a simple-yet-complex statement: you can do anything you want, you just can’ t do everything. Time, energy, and interest are finite. It is impossible to pursue every opportunity, and it is unwise to pursue most opportunities.
So how do you decide which opportunities are worth passing up, and which should be seized? Ultimately, you must return to your vision and intention for your life. If you have created a life vision for yourself, return to that statement for clarity. Ask yourself, “How does this opportunity fit with my overarching intention for my life? Would taking this opportunity help or harm my goals in the major areas of my life?
And remind yourself: Yes, this may be the perfect job/date/trip/project … for someone. It just may not be perfect for you.
